SEWA announces plans for new 90 million gallon per day desalination plant

Studies for the project are underway and will take a year and a half according to SEWA

The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) plans to set up a new desalination plant in the Al Hamriyah region to boost the production of desalinated water in the emirate. On completion, the plant will have a 90m gallon per day capacity.

The project is said to be part of SEWA’s strategy to sustain water and provide it for development projects and for future generations.

Essam Al Mulla, director of the Water and Desalination Plants Department noted that SEWA had already signed up a number of consultants and international houses of expertise for the project’s implementation.

These studies take a year and a half and implementation is about three years, with the project expected to be completed in 2026, he concluded.
