KPC reports damage from drone attack at Mina Al Ahmadi Refinery

Assessments found that the attack resulted in a fire in several units within the refinery but caused no injuries

Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) reported on Friday morning that the Mina Al Ahmadi Refinery came under drone attack. The refinery is Kuwait’s largest and is operated by Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC).

Emergency response and fire-fighting teams were immediately deployed and worked to contain the situation in accordance with the highest safety standards, KPC said.

According to a report, preliminary assessments found that the attack resulted in a fire in several units within the refinery but caused no injuries. The refinery processes about 730,000 barrels of oil per day.

In response, precautionary measures were rolled out; a number of refinery units were shut down, and all necessary procedures were implemented to ensure the safety of personnel and the security of the facility.

The strike is part of a larger campaign against GCC countries that was launched by Iran in retaliation for an Israeli strike last week on its South Pars gasfield, the country’s largest, which supplies about 80% of its domestic natural gas needs.
